Spring, finally!

The wildflower area, planted last fall, was uncovered this week. It’s really exciting!

A local landscaping company did the planting after we’d had some “good dirt” delivered. And then it remained covered for the winter and most of spring. As it got warmer I began peeking as I waited. Now, it looks like this.

The seeds came from The Vermont Wildflower Farm. It’s a fun website to visit in the winter when it’s snowy and cold.

Meanwhile, this fancy solar cat is now part of our outdoor decor. He/She glows at night.

And… this week I planted three tomato plants along with some thyme and basil. Fingers crossed that the critters won’t eat them before us.

And – we have a construction survivor! The lilac made it through and it smells simply wonderful.

You had me worried for a moment when you said your wildflowers were just uncovered. The first thing that came to mind was, “Are you ice out, yet?” I was thinking the snow had finally melted. Those lilacs are tough. 🙂

You sound like you really needed a dose of spring flowers! It’s been a dreary, snowy winter here too–good for the skiers, bad for people like us. Hubby and I keep saying we’ve spent enough on new plantings and where will we possibly put any more? and then we see another and another and keep on buying and planting! Yours all look great. I sympathize with you on the critter problem and new plantings. After a squirrel or rabbit ate the tulip blossoms and dug up the cilantro the second time, we bought some metal pinwheels at a local discount store–they were having a clearance on the patriotic themed stuff–and now when the wind puffs they whirl. So far, so good. It was a last resort. The cat solar is the pièce de résistance! I love it!
